Lesson 6: Fire safety and evacuation

EXIT
Fire safety and evacuation

A warehouse fire doubles in size every 60 seconds. Knowing your route and your role is more important than knowing how to use an extinguisher.

When the alarm sounds

  1. Stop work immediately. Do not finish the pick, do not save the screen.
  2. Leave by the nearest marked exit, not the way you came in.
  3. Walk, do not run. Help anyone who needs it.
  4. Go to your assembly point (A for docks and dispatch, B for picking and packing, C for offices).
  5. Report to the fire warden in the orange vest. Stay until you are released.

Keep exits clear

Emergency exits, fire doors and extinguisher points must have a one-metre clear zone at all times. Storing pallets “just for an hour” in front of an exit is a reportable breach.
